PROJECT STORY

Old-world pattern. Modern home. A floor that ties it all together.

In this fully renovated 1,500 sq ft home, we installed
3.5″ × 14″ white oak engineered hardwood floors in a classic
herringbone pattern — a design that blends timeless tradition with modern elegance.

The wood was stained with DuraSeal Early American, offering warm mid-tones that highlight the natural grain
and character of the oak — then sealed with a matte Bona water-based finish for a clean, contemporary feel.

DESIGN FEATURE

Why herringbone feels instantly high-end

Movement + rhythm

The angled layout adds motion and depth — it’s visually rich without feeling busy.

Timeless tradition

Herringbone has centuries of design history — it never looks trendy, only intentional.

Modern compatibility

In a renovated home, it bridges old-world style with clean contemporary finishes effortlessly.

MATERIALS

Engineered white oak: stable, beautiful, design-friendly

For herringbone, stability matters. The 3.5″ × 14″ engineered white oak planks provide a strong foundation
for precise alignment and long-term performance — especially in Northwest homes where seasonal humidity shifts are real.

TONE + PROTECTION

Early American warmth with a modern matte topcoat

We stained the oak with DuraSeal Early American for warm, balanced mid-tones, then finished the flooring with a
matte Bona water-based finish to protect the surface while preserving the natural look and feel.

Why Early American?

  • Warm mid-tone that complements most interior palettes
  • Highlights oak grain without going overly dark
  • Feels timeless — not “dated”

Why matte water-based?

  • Modern low-sheen appearance
  • Clear tone (less ambering than many oil systems)
  • Durable daily protection

OUR METHOD

Precision layout is everything in herringbone

Layout + alignment

  • Centerline planning to keep the pattern symmetrical
  • Consistent joints and clean corners
  • Transitions designed to feel intentional

Finishing execution

  • Uniform sanding to keep stain absorption consistent
  • Controlled stain application for even color
  • Matte topcoat for a refined modern result

This herringbone installation adds visual interest, depth, and charm — proving that when
old-world style meets contemporary living, the result is a truly captivating home.
