PROJECT STORY

Restoring the original charm — with modern performance

The original charm of this mid-century classic home was brought back to life with a full hardwood floor restoration.
We refinished the 2.25″ solid white oak planks and preserved the unique character of the space by highlighting the 0.75″ walnut border inlays around each room — a design detail that adds contrast, elegance, and architectural interest.

SIGNATURE DETAIL

Walnut border inlays: contrast that makes the rooms feel designed

Border inlays are one of those rare details you don’t want to “sand away” or blend into the background.
In this home, the 0.75″ walnut border frames each space, adds definition, and creates a subtle, high-end contrast against white oak.

Architectural framing

The walnut border outlines each room and makes the layout feel intentional and finished.

Mid-century authenticity

A period-correct detail that keeps the home’s original design language intact.

Modern contrast

Walnut + white oak creates calm warmth and visual depth without heavy color.

HOW IT WAS DONE

Full restoration with detail-first sanding

1) Refinishing the white oak

  • Careful sanding to remove wear while maintaining crisp edges
  • Surface refinement for consistent tone and texture
  • Detail protection around borders for a clean finish line

2) Preserving the inlay contrast

  • Controlled work near walnut borders to avoid over-rounding
  • Clean transitions that keep the border “sharp” visually
  • Final inspection under real lighting for consistency

FINISH CHOICE

WOCA Diamond Oil Active in Sand Gray: matte, modern, natural

To finish the project, we applied WOCA Diamond Oil Active in Sand Gray, a high-performance natural oil that offers a matte, contemporary finish while enhancing the wood’s texture and tone.

The look

  • Soft matte finish with a modern feel
  • Enhances texture instead of “sealing it under plastic”
  • Sand Gray tone keeps the space bright and refined

The performance

  • High-performance oil system designed for daily living
  • Great for mid-century homes where natural warmth matters
  • Durable finish that still feels organic underfoot

THE RESULT

Sophisticated floors that blend mid-century design with modern durability

The result is a smooth, sophisticated floor that honors the home’s mid-century lines, highlights the walnut inlay detailing, and adds a clean, contemporary matte finish built for real life.
