Maple Hardwood Floor Refinishing in Kirkland, WA

This Kirkland home has maple floors running through the kitchen, living room and entry, with a curved staircase and black ironwork as the centerpiece. Years of everyday use had dulled the finish and left scratches in the busiest areas. The homeowners didn’t want new floors. They wanted their maple back.
The challenge
Light woods like maple show wear quickly. The finish had gone dull along the kitchen island and the main walkways, and fine scratches caught the light near the windows. The goal was to bring back maple’s clean, bright look without changing its color.
What we did
- Assessed the floors. We checked the wear and confirmed the floors had plenty of life left for a full sand and refinish.
- Sanded to clean wood. The floors were sanded back to remove the worn finish and surface scratches.
- Kept the natural color. A clear finish keeps maple’s light, even tone instead of shifting it darker.
- Checked every room. From the kitchen to the entry, the finish was inspected for an even sheen before handing the floors back.
Before and after

The result
The maple is bright and even again, from the kitchen through the living room to the front entry, and it sets off the white cabinetry and the curved black railing the way the house was designed to.
